Langdi (Lame Game)

Langdi is a traditional Indian field sport played since ancient times. It was popular in Pandian Dynasty. It is played in Maharashtra and described by Maharashtrians as a sport with Marathi ethos.


Langdi is popular childhood pastime in Maharashtra. It is considered to be a good training for games like volleyball, gymnastics and Kho Kho. The National Lungdi Federation in India received recognition in 2010.

Non residential Indians have associated to popularise the game in other countries. 





Brief Rules
The rules of this sport have been standardised by the Akhil Maharashtra Sharirik Shikshan Mandal
Langadi is a team game .There are two teams consisting twelve players; and additional three players in each team.


A match lasts 36 minutes. It is played in four innings of nine minutes each. The team that wins the toss defends. The chasing team sends chasers who hop on one foot and try to tag the defenders. The chasers can step out of the ground as long as they keep on one foot. The defenders are declared out if they step out of the ground or commit a line fault. The team that tags most defenders is declared the winner.






 This sport can be played during day and during Night. You do not need equipment  to play this game.
