Baseball is a game played on the square ground in the open between two teams of nine players each. One team bats and the other fields. An inning consists of each team playing once as batting team (offense) and once as fielding team (defence). There are 9 innings. The team that scores the most runs by the end of the ninth inning wins the game. There are 7 innings at school level or in minor league and 6 innings at the little league

Bat ,Ball

Play starts when the pitcher throws a ball overhand towards the batter, who tries to hit the ball into the baseball field.

The players on the team at bat attempt to score runs by touching all four bases, in order, set at the corners of the square-shaped baseball diamond. A player bats at home plate and must attempt to safely reach a base before proceeding, anticlockwise, from first base, to second base, third base, and back home to score a run. The team in the field attempts to prevent runs from scoring by recording outs, which remove opposing players from offensive action, until their next turn at bat comes up again.  If the scores are level at the end of both team’s ninth inning, the game can be extended into an extra inning.

Once a batter has hit the ball, then they are referred to as a ‘runner.’

Runners try to reach the bases, and can remain safe on a base until the next hitter comes.

If the ball is caught direct from the batter’s hit, then that batter is out. The same applies if the ball is thrown to first base before the batter arrives at the base.

A batter is out if he or she fails to connect with the ball three times after three good pitches — which is often referred to as being ‘out on strikes’.

The offensive player can also be out by a ‘tagout’ when a defensive player touches the runner with the ball or a glove with the ball in.

The defensive team position a ‘catcher’ directly behind the batter who catches the ball if it is not hit.

The defensive team also position ‘infielders’ on first, second and third base ‘basemen’ and also will have a ‘shortstop’ to cover the area between second and third base.
There will also be three outfielders of the defensive team - the centre fielder and the right and left fielders.

A player who reaches base due to a fielding mistake is not credited with a hit—instead, the responsible fielder is charged with an error.

There are three basic tools of baseball: the ball, the bat, and the glove or mitt:

Protective helmets are also standard equipment for all batters.

Skills required to play :

The four basic baseball skills are catching, hitting, throwing and base running. These four are collectively called as baseball drills.
