Ian James Thorpe, AM who was born on 13 October in the year 1982 is an Australian retired swimmer who specialised in freestyle, also competing in backstroke and the individual medley. He has won five Olympic gold medals which is the most won by any Australian. He has three gold and two silver medals. He was the most successful athlete at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
